Creating satoriCircles

The easiest way to create a satoriCircle is to begin at the center and work your way out. First, create one single stroke in one segment, then replicate that same, single stroke in the next segment.

Slowly, mindfully, work your way around the circle, adding the single stroke to each segment. Next, create a second stroke, repeating it in each segment, working in the same circular direction. It can be helpful to turn the page as you are working and to always turn the page in the same direction. You may find yourself in a natural rhythm as you do this. It is through this step by step progression – one simple stroke after one simple stroke – that we are able to create remarkably beautiful and intricate patterns.

Black tipped pens of varying thicknesses (such as Pigma Micron® pens) work exceptionally well to create striking contrast but anything will do - pencil, colored pencil, ballpoint pen. Go ahead, use a crayon.

So easy, anyone can do it. So fun, everyone should.

Absolutely anyone can create a satoriCircle and you can learn how in just minutes! They can be created in as little as two minutes or over the course of hours, days, weeks, even years. You get to decide when it’s done or you may choose to let the satoriCircle decide when it’s done. (It doesn’t really matter as it’s an illusion either way: in fact, no satoriCircle is ever really complete.)

It’s not unusual to feel apprehensive and critical as you create your satoriCircle. Actually, it is entirely common. You may at one moment find yourself extremely pleased and proud of what you are creating, only to make one new stroke that “ruins” it. Or, you may be afraid to make the very first stroke, worried about how the final circle will look. It’s only natural – and human – to be critical. This is, in fact, the very reason why we create them to begin with: to free one’s Self from criticism and judgment. This powerful practice of surrender ultimately leads us to acceptance and it is from this place of acceptance that we can truly grow to love our true Self.
